Possible Reasons Why Your Stove Is Not Heating Up

One of the main reasons behind a faulty burner is the surface burner element itself. Over time, this part becomes worn and you will most likely notice that the problem affects just one burner at a time rather than all four. The burner element needs to be tested using special tools before this problem can be officially diagnosed.

If the element is not at fault, it could be the surface burner terminal block and receptacle. They are located under the cooktop and disassembly of the appliance is required in order to access them. The surface burner switch and infinite switch help control power to each element. When not working properly, power will not flow as it should and this will result in the element failing to heat up as it should.

Many of the parts responsible for your stove heating up are located beneath the cooktop or behind the back panel. It is best to avoid trying to disassemble your stove yourself since you could end up making it more difficult for a technician to perform swift repairs. Instead, you should leave your stove as is and call a technician to take a closer look.

Other Possible Considerations

Sometimes, when your stove will not heat up, it might not be indicative of a stove fault at all. The first thing you want to do is check whether or not you have power to your home and that all fuses in your fuse box are in order. If there is a general power outage, you might simply need to wait. If the power outage is limited to your home, there could be another problem and you should probably call your electric company to investigate.

If the power supply to your home is working just fine, you should also check the power outlet to which your stove is connected. Unplug the stove and plug in another small appliance like a toaster. If this appliance does not work, the outlet is faulty and you should call an electrician right away. Do not attempt forcing the outlet to work and do not try to fix it yourself
